Despite being a common machine, dozers are far from dull. These machines can do much more than just push material; in fact, they’re rather versatile. Perhaps unsurprising to some, manufacturers Komatsu and Caterpillar produce some of the most popular dozers in the world. Both are known for their experience, expertise and high-quality machines, but when it comes down to which dozer model is superior, you’ll have to decide.
Komatsu is an acknowledged leader in the manufacturing of high-quality dozers. Released in 2020, the company’s D475A-8 is known for its combination of power and speed; it’s a beast to be reckoned with. A successor of the D475A-5, this machine is the second largest dozer produced by Komatsu, with an operating weight of 112.62t and an impressive 1040HP engine that offers outstanding productivity. Whether you’re looking for a machine for ripping up solid rock or cleaning up around the dragline, this dozer is a good choice.
Although the D475A-8 may not be quite as strong as its older sibling, the “super dozer”, it has remarkable tranquillity. This is thanks to its hydraulically driven radiator-cooling fan fitted that guarantees optimum rpm and significantly reduces noise.
Equipped with a low undercarriage design, this machine is less susceptible to wear and tear while offering stability. Moreover, created with the operator in mind, this dozer offers “first-class comfort”. All in all, the D475A-8 is a fast, powerful and safe contender for any fleet.
Caterpillar is also a world leader in the production of large dozers. CAT designs its machines with durability built-in to ensure maximum availability over numerous life cycles. The D11T CD is not only the largest dozer built by CAT but one of the largest in the world. Introduced to the market in 2008, this dozer has stood the test of time, enduring the most demanding workloads.
With a 913HP engine and an operating weight of 112.72t, this dozer is known to move more for less. Its undercarriage was designed for optimised machine balance and performance, and the cooling system keeps you moving in the most challenging work conditions. Further, the D11T CD’s mainframe was designed to endure high-impact shock loads during severe operations; it is not uncommon for the dozer to be rebuilt multiple times using the same frame. Overall, this model has optimised performance and simplified serviceability to move material safely and efficiently at a lower cost per ton.
Of course, everyone has their own opinion regarding which machine would take out top prize, and this question has been known to generate enthusiastic conversation around the crib room.
